Kali Dove,
Nurse Practitioner
What was your path to mental healthcare?
Currently, I am a Registered Nurse and I am in a BSN-DNP and PMHNP program at George Mason University. My path to mental healthcare is influenced by my personal mental health experience, which motivates and inspires me to improve mental health services and care for all.
How will this scholarship help you?
It will be personally, professionally, and academically beneficial to receive this scholarship, so that I can attend the Elevate 2023 Conference. I have enjoyed attending previous Psych Congress Conferences, however, as a student and with the increased costs of travel, I am financially limited in attending the Elevate 2023 Conference.
It would be exciting to attend the 2023 conference in-person to engage with leading professionals (i.e. Dr. Jain, Dr. Chepke, etc.) and conference activities, which can greatly aid me in being an effective and a leading PMHNP. I would be able to gain Psychopharmacology education, which is valuable and supports me as a nurse, PMHNP, and in my personal health. Importantly, this unique and exciting learning opportunity can be achieved by receiving this scholarship.
What are your academic and/or career goals?
1) Be a PMHNP in 2023.
2) Graduate with a DNP in 2023.
3) As a PMHNP, I would like to provide complimentary medicine to improve the mental health of children and adults in a diverse environment.
4) Utilize evidence-based data and technology to improve healthcare and mental health services.
5) Be engaged in the community to improve mental health care and services.
What does “exceptional patient care” mean to you?
Exceptional patient care means providing empathy, compassion, therapeutic communication, holistic care, and meets the needs of the patient. Importantly, exceptional patient care means I provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care, but also the care and services I give will improve the patients quality of life and the care is positively meaningful.
